As
a recognised school activity, the club follows the safety measures set
out by the school and its Safety Advisor.
BGSBC is a member of the Amateur Rowing Association, and is also bound
by the safety code of the ARA as descibed on the ARA website: www.ara-rowing.org
In
accordance with ARA rules, crews are only allowed to train on the water
under the supervision of a qualified ARA coach, and as
a school activity there must
be supervision from a member of staff.
Therefore, training supervision is always by someone with first aid
qualifications, with a strong rowing background.
All
races we enter are run under ARA rules, and therefore have a detailed
safety plan drawn up prior to the event to ensure prompt rescue of
anyone who requires it (due to capsize or otherwise). In addition, they
have first-aiders at the venue - often from St. John's Ambulance or a
similar recognised first-aid organisation.
